Where Learning Leads to Real-World Opportunities

A hybrid program designed to help young adults with learning differences build employability skills, foster independence, and explore meaningful career pathways.

What Makes Tiegerman Transition NYC Unique

Tiegerman Transition NYC is an individualized program for young adults ages 17–21 with learning differences, designed to support the transition from school to the workforce. Through internships, targeted coursework, and individualized coaching, our young adults develop the skills needed for meaningful employment and successful independent living.

Tiegerman Transition NYC operates out of Tiegerman’s two high school locations in Richmond Hill and Woodside, Queens. Our young adults receive both academic and career-focused instruction while staying connected to the supportive Tiegerman community.

Workplace Readiness - Hybrid Learning Model

Tiegerman Transition NYC combines internship-based learning with career-readiness coursework to prepare individuals for long-term employment success and greater independence.

Our young adults receive three hours of daily internship experiences, where they participate in job training in a supportive workplace environment under the supervision and guidance of a Tiegerman Transition Specialist. In addition, our young adults receive classroom instruction focused on career development and essential life skills.

This hybrid approach provides young adults with opportunities to connect classroom instruction to real-world workplace experiences while strengthening the skills necessary for meaningful employment.

Transition Teacher Support

Tiegerman Transition NYC is supported by experienced educators specializing in transition planning, employment readiness, and independent living skills.

Every young adult is paired with a Transition Teacher who identifies strengths, sets individualized goals, and monitors progress toward independence and career success. Individuals meet weekly with their Transition Teacher to review goals, reflect on internship experiences, strengthen job-readiness skills, and track personal and professional growth.

Quarterly meetings are held between the Transition Teacher, young adult, and family to review performance and support continued progress toward employment and independence

Community-Based Internships

Our young adults receive daily internship opportunities in the community that align with their interests, strengths, and career goals. As participants build confidence and develop new skills, their responsibilities increase to mirror authentic workplace expectations and foster greater independence. These partnerships offer valuable real-world work experience and help build meaningful connections within the community.

Internal Internship Opportunities

Because the internships take place within the school setting, staff are able to provide immediate feedback, individualized support, and accommodations tailored to each student’s unique learning profile and goals.

The following internships are scheduled throughout the school building during the day:
