Tiegerman Elementary School
Where Every Child’s Learning Journey Begins

At Tiegerman Elementary Schools, New York State-approved non-public schools, we provide a transformative education for students with language-based learning disabilities and autism spectrum disorders. Families choose Tiegerman because of our commitment to individualized education, language development, and social-emotional growth.

Tiegerman Elementary Schools are approved by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) to serve students with language and learning disabilities. Our specialized programs meet state standards, while delivering customized instruction designed for students with speech, language, and communication challenges.

Our language-based education model focuses on speech, language, and literacy development, helping students build strong foundations in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

Our classrooms maintain an 8:1:2, 12:1:2 or 12:2:2 student-to-teacher ratio, ensuring every child receives individualized instruction and personalized support from certified special education teachers and teaching assistants. This structure fosters academic progress and confidence.

We emphasize social-emotional learning (SEL), by explicitly teaching students critical social skills, emotional regulation strategies, and self-advocacy. Structured peer interactions and dedicated social skills programs help students develop communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills to build valuable friendships.

Tiegerman’s Extraordinary Language and Literacy (TELL) Program

Tiegerman’s Extraordinary Language and Literacy (TELL) program is a comprehensive instructional approach designed to support students with language-based reading disorders. Implemented at all Tiegerman locations, TELL provides explicit instruction in reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills to help students become confident, competent readers and communicators.

Literacy instruction is provided 3 to 4 periods daily, using carefully selected phonics, literature-based, and leveled reading programs. These resources are used to ensure students receive daily, systematic instruction in both foundational and advanced literacy skills.

Instruction is differentiated to meet the unique needs of every learner. Through a collaborative model, classroom teachers, speech-language pathologists, and reading specialists work together to deliver targeted, research-based strategies. This transdisciplinary approach ensures that students develop the critical strategies and skills necessary for success in reading, writing, and oral communication.

TELL empowers students to grow as readers, writers, and speakers—building both language skills and confidence every step of the way.

Enriched Learning Experience

Tiegerman Elementary Schools use a transdisciplinary model where educators and therapists collaborate to support each child’s language, social, emotional, and cognitive development.

Beyond the Classroom
