Status: Full Time, Part Time and Per Diem
Salary: $18.50 – $19.00 per hour
Direct Support Professionals are responsible for maintaining a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment which fosters growth and rehabilitation and facilitates the development of mutual aid/self-help skills among individuals. Staff’s primary role is to provide the appropriate supports tailored to the needs and desires of each individual to enable each to live as independently as possible. Direct Support Professionals are expected to recognize when an individual is in a crisis and be able to utilize the appropriate interventions. This position is Non-Exempt. DSPs report to the Manager and Assistant Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist/monitor/teach individuals with preparation of daytime activities; encourage good personal hygiene.
- Assist/monitor/teach individuals as needed in grocery shopping, menu planning, meal preparation and clean up.
- Assist/monitor/teach individuals on completion of daily chores.
- Provide light housekeeping ( all common areas of the home)
- Meet with individuals (as needed) on an individual basis to discuss concerns and problems. Serve, as an informal advocate for residents.
- Assist/monitor/teach individuals in holding meetings and informal discussion groups with peers.
- Supervise individuals in on and off campus activities.
- Handle emergency situations appropriately.
- Utilize crisis interventions when necessary.
- Complete required documentation.
- Administer medication, schedule appointments, transport to and from appointments, order medication, follow up with appointments and but not limited to tasks given from RN, Manager, and Administration.
- Provide first-aid assistance to all individuals and assist in the follow through on medical needs for residents.
- Assure individuals follow routines
- Performs any other duties as assigned by the Manager, Asst. Manager, and Administration.
- Report suspected abuse & neglect to supervisor immediately (within one hour)
- Transport individuals to and from community outings
- Must hold valid NYS Driver’s license for a minimum of three years to be considered for full time positions.
