Tiegerman Preschool:
Learning, Growing, and Thriving
Tiegerman’s Preschool programs provide theme-and-language based curriculum that is individualized to each child’s developmental level. All activities increase social interactions by facilitating language between peers and teachers. At Tiegerman, we encourage preschool students to ask questions and make comments to foster their curiosity and communication skills.
Students are placed in classrooms according to age, language, and cognitive levels. Classroom activities are developed to create the need for student communication and interaction. Letters, shapes, and numbers are important, but students without adequate speech and language skills cannot have conversations about them. We do not teach children to memorize phrases such as, “I want…”, we teach students what to say, when to say it, and to whom. Language use in a social environment is emphasized when you teach a student to answer a question, you give them the ability to learn independently.
In order to ensure that our preschool students are engaged in meaningful and appropriate activities that will prepare them for their elementary academic experiences, our preschool program and instruction are aligned with the New York State Prekindergarten Learning Standards and New York State Early Learning Guidelines. These standards help teachers to identify the knowledge and skills that students are expected to attain, by the end of preschool. With a thorough understanding of expected learning outcomes, our teachers are able to design rich, challenging activities and identify the accommodations and supports needed to participate in these activities, in accordance with the child’s individualized education program (IEP).
Enrollment at Tiegerman Preschool
Starts with Your CPSE
We’re so glad you’re interested in Tiegerman’s Preschool Program. If your child has an IEP and you would like them to attend, please contact your local school district or your local Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) representative or your local school district. All placements are determined by your local school district or the Department of Education through the CPSE process, and your representative can guide you through the next steps.
